Thanks for your message. Yes, there are some left. Be aware though that the firmware (as supplied by Huawei) has bugs when it comes to reporting certain error counters. This doesn’t seem to affect performance but you should know about it.
Cool! Do you have a link to a manual anywhere? And how much are they including postage?
I’m assuming it’s easy to configure one as you can with a hacked BT supplied modem as per your unlock instructions PDF – ie still functioning in bridge mode but accessible via the web interface so I can look at the stats?
I understand that this one has 4 ports but is otherwise identical to what BT have given us?
Can pay you via paypal.
Cheers
Sam
Hi Sam,
There is an English quick start guide and a manual.
They are easy to configure, yes. Easier than the HG612 since they don’t need unlocking.
Yup, they can function in ethernet bridge mode, with stats obtained via TCP/IP from another ethernet port.
The HG610 is (almost) physically identical to the HG612 but, as warned, the HG610 f/w has (different) bugs in the counters of the line statistics. That buggy firmware is official, from Huawei, who should be aware since I asked them about it. However, it doesn’t seem to affect DSL performance.
Because of those bugs (and no PSU), the cost is £15 + £2.30 for P+P (Royal Mail First Class, under 750g). Total £17.30
If that’s okay, I can list some units.
Again, 100% of final sale price to go to the Dogs Trust.
Great! Would be happy to buy one if you list it, although can you confirm that the PSU for my HG612 will work with it ok? Also, can you point me at any info on your blog or elsewhere about what to expect regarding the bugs in the line stats counters?
The PSU from the HG612 would be fine. There is a long thread on the forum of kitz where the bugs in the line stats counters are documented. It may be possible to patch the firmware to overcome these errors. I briefly tried but time ran out
P.S. The HG622 is definitely a better overall modem. If it does have any firmware bugs, they’re not noticeable or noteworthy.
Cool, thanks for the info. Just seems a waste buying the HG622 when I only need basic modem functionality – no routing and certainly no wireless or USB support… (I run iptables/dhcpd etc on my linux server) But if you’re sure that the HG622 is a better device then maybe I should get it!
Thank you so much!
Thank you for finding me a very nice Alsatian many years ago
Now 14 years old and sleeps at least 23 hours a day but still a lovely dog
cheers, a
How lovely to hear one of our dogs has had 14 loving years in a home and is still enjoying a happy snooze there! Thank you.
Do you have any more of these?
I don’t really need the features of the HG622…

Can anyone tell me if this firmware work with the HG612 ?

Hi PiSToLBR!
I’ve not tried it, but it should work, albeit with no DSL. The firmware will turn the HG612 into a modemless two-port 10/100 router.
